Abstract. The extraordinary diffusion of fake news and bad information through the media and the network at every level damages civil cohabitation and discredits the credibility of the democratic institutions themselves. We need to create a new alliance between truth and democracy also by the language of rights. A recent proposal to formulate “alethic rights” to be used as a basis also for a jurisdiction reform, particularly the criminal one, deserves attention. Its purpose – unique among all judicial activities – is precisely to ascertain and verify the truth. But what truth? Not only the procedural one but a truth that combines scientific knowledge, logic, the experience lived by the actors of the human story and the polyphony of the voices that intervene along the trial.

This article was submitted for evaluation by two expert reviewers, with a positive outcome.
