It’s time for a different ending

There is no deafness worse than that of a person who doesn’t want to hear: after the judgment Citraro and Molino v. Italy, another occasion in which the Italian Government does not adequately protect the health and life of a prisoner with psychiatric problems. The defenders, before it is too late, appeal to the ECtHR and obtain an urgent measure pursuant to art. 39 of the Regulation

Issue 9/2020

Abstract. The reflection compares the stories of two prisoners suffering from psychiatric problems: Antonio Citraro, who committed suicide in prison almost twenty years ago, whose parents recently obtained a conviction of the Italian Government by the ECHR, and another inmate in risk, whose life is not adequately protected, while a tortuous affair before the Supervisory Judiciary does not seem to find an outlet. And it’s not COVID’s fault.

SUMMARY: 1. Suicide in prison: madness. – 2. The judgment Citraro and Molino v. Italy. – 3. One name, two people, many similar stories. – 4. Practicing for for a different ending. – 5. An important decision.

«Il dottore si era rimesso in piedi e ascoltava Coupeau,
che adesso vedeva di nuovo i fantasmi in pieno giorno.
Alle parteti gli pareva di scorgere certe ragnatele
grosse come le vele di una nave!
Poi, queste ragnatele diventavano reti
con le maglie che si stringevano e si allungavano…»
